This Spring Summer 2017 Trend and Theme report brings to you a taste of India, through inspired design from the catwalks at Amazon Fashion Week in India to the Uk bridal shows of 2016.
East Meets West Inspiration
Through my work I am privileged enough to travel around the world and twice a year I get to venture to India. Not many people get a chance to see the world so I take full advantage of being surrounded by new cultures. India is vast and is full of different languages, religions and customs, but one thing that is the same throughout the country is that it is filled with a culture of exquisite colour, embellishment and richness.
We are exposed to so many different cultures on a daily basis it would be hard not to be inspired by those around us. This mood board brings together modern and traditional Indian brides, details from customs of a traditional Indian wedding and opulence through luxe fabrics and jewellery pieces. Colour is important so rich tones of red, fuchsia, golds are key but can be softened with pastel shades.
Traditional Indian Brides
Amazon India Fashion week was showcased on 12th-16th October in New Delhi. The collections showed a fusion of traditional and contemporary fashions. A mixture of luxurious embellished fabrics and more paired down styles were shown on the catwalks.
The Spring Summer 2017 finale of Amazon India Fashion week was full of decadence, richness and beautiful silhouettes. The collaboration between
JJ Valya & Alpana & Neeraj brought tradition to the forefront with their 'Modern Festive ' Collection. Velvet, heavily embellished gowns and lehengas were inspired.
Modern Eastern Brides
These modern influences on bridal fashions have really stood out at India Fashion Week and will inspire any bride from any culture to find that one special dress.
Traditional Indian Grooms
Valya & Alpana & Neeraj showcased heavily embellished menswear in their collection for a traditional groom. The mixture of silohettes using draping, outfitting with sherwanis and nehru jackets for a formal updated indian look.
Eastern Inspired Menswear
I love the contrast between the heavily embellished, traditional menswear outfits to these more paired down suits from Amazon India Fashion week. There are still touches of tradition but the tailoring presents a modern feel with window pane checks, mixed fabrics and contemporary finishes on the cut of each suit.
UK Wedding Shows
From our recent trips to two of the Uk's biggest wedding shows, the Eastern trend was coming through strongly. From interior design to wedding cakes, the details were captured through the use of icons, print, rich tones of colour and luxe fabrics. Be inspired and embrace the use of print and texture on your wedding day, it can transport you to a new world.
